Muuma: Si pelamos la nueva Manda Rin, ¿con qué nos encontraremos en su interior?

Manda Rin: Hay un huevo con un juguete de plástico en su interior.


Muuma: Quizá también un zumo un tanto agridulce por las últimas desilusiones: el final de BIS, el fracaso de Data Panik, pero también las inmejorables sensaciones que transmite tu primer proyecto en solitario.

Manda Rin: No lo llamaría realmente desilusión. BIS es la mejor cosa que he hecho en toda mi vida y sólo puedo mirar atrás y pensar en lo afortunada que he sido viviendo esa experiencia. Data Panik fue sin duda un excelente proyecto musical en el que, además, resultaba muy divertido tocar. 


Muuma:  El problema con BIS fue el haberos adelantado a vuestro tiempo. A mediados de los 90, el sonido electro-pop no estaba tan de moda como hoy en día donde los Ting Tings, CSS, Le Tigre arrasan sobre los escenarios del mundo entero.

Manda Rin: BIS siempre estuvo un poco fuera de su tiempo. Una cuestión de timing. No era algo que nos importara en aquellos momentos, ya que estábamos disfrutando mucho lo que hacíamos. Hubiera estado bien sacar discos que tuvieran un sonido más a la moda, pero no puedo estar triste cuando logramos dos top-40 y con todo lo demás que hicimos.


Muuma: Se nota que ahora quieres, con tu proyecto en solitario, sumarte a esta fiesta para demostrar tu calidad que años atrás, quizá no fue lo suficientemente valorada.

Manda Rin: Estoy haciendo un proyecto en solitario porque es algo que nunca había intentado. No es que me lo impidieran mientras estaba en bandas anteriores, pero ahora siento que debo intentarlo

Muuma: En cualquier caso My DNA se publicará el próximo 8 de septiembre, y ya se pueden escuchar 4 canciones en tu myspace (http://www.myspace.com/musicmandarin) entre las que se encuentra el primer single DNA, una canción potente, pegadiza y lista para convertirse en un nuevo himno indie.


Manda Rin: ¡Muchas gracias!


Muuma: ¿Cuándo se va a rodar el video-clip? ¿Cuándo lo podremos ver?

Manda Rin: Lo rodamos hace un par de semanas en un Rollerdisco en Londres. Aunque se podrá ver muy pronto, estoy muy impaciente de ver como habrá quedado.


Muuma: En el tracklist de My DNA figura Do The Static. Ésta canción la pudimos escuchar con tu anterior formación Data Panik. ¿La habéis vuelto a grabar entre todos?

Manda Rin: Data Panik sólo editó un 7’’ que encerraba algunas grandes canciones. En cuanto a Do The Static, estuve muy involucrada con la escritura de esa canción, así que me permití recuperarla y regrabarla.

Muuma: ¿Hay colaboraciones en tu disco?


Manda Rin: Simplemente un grandísimo guitarrista como es Sci Fi Steven (http://www.myspace.com/stevenpanik ) para suplir una de mis carencias. No soy tan buena tocando ese instrumento. Él es un muy buen guitarrista y mi banda para los directos se han esforzado para aprenderse el repertorio.


Muuma: ¿Tienes pensado ofrecer una gira para presentar el disco?

Manda Rin: Creo que sólo habrá una gira selectiva. Ahora mismo tengo 4 confirmaciones en Londres y Glasgow. Estoy nerviosa, pero espero que todo salga como previsto.

Muuma: ¿Vendrás a España?

Manda Rin: Me encantaría... si alguien pone el dinero suficiente para que ello sea factible, lo haré sin ningún tipo de duda.

Muuma: ¿Te molesta cuando te preguntan por BIS o por tu pasado en vez del presente o el futuro?

Manda Rin: No, no me molesta siempre y cuando la gente también mencione mi presente y mi futuro. No estoy avergonzada de mi pasado, pero me gustaría mostrar que hoy en día tengo otras cosas por ofrecer.


Muuma: Pues, en el myspace de Data Panik, habéis añadido un RIP. No obstante, eso no ocurre en la página de BIS. ¿Significa que mantenéis la posibilidad de volver algún día?

Manda Rin: Tocamos el 31 de diciembre en Glasgow, por lo tanto existe la posibilidad de que volvamos a actuar juntos. Todos ellos (en la banda) son grandes amigos míos.


Muuma: Cuando oyes la palabra muuma (nombre de nuestro portal), ¿qué te viene a la cabeza?

Manda Rin: Comida india

Manda Rin: An egg with a plastic toy inside


Muuma: Maybe a rather bitter-sweet juice due to the last disappointments: the end of the BIS, the failure of Data Panik – but also the superb sensations that transmit your first project in solitary.

Manda Rin: I wouldn't call them disappointments one bit. Bis is the best thing I have ever done in my life, and can only look back on it thinking how lucky I was to get to experience it. Data Panik was a truly great band musically, and very fun to play live.


Muuma: The problem with BIS was that you were well advanced to your time. By the mid-90 the electro-pop sound wasn’t as fashionable as it is today, when the Ting Tings, CSS, Le Tigre are making a big impact over the all the world’s scene.

Manda Rin: Bis never got the timing right. It wasn't something we cared about at the time as we were thoroughly enjoying what we were doing. It would have been nice to be release records that had a sound that was currently trendy, but I can't be sad about two top 40's and everything else we did.

Muuma: It is clear that now, with your project in solitary, you want to join this party to show your quality, which in past years, wasn’t maybe fully valued.

Manda Rin: I'm doing a solo project as it's something I've never tried before. I wasn't prevented from doing stuff in previous bands, but I just feel it's something I should give a shot!

Muuma: Anyway, MY DNA will be released next September the 8th, and it is already possible to listen to four songs at your Myspace site, among them the first DNA single, a powerful and catchy rhythm, ready to become a new indie hymn.

Manda Rin: Thank you very much!

Muuma: When will be shoot the videoclip? When will we be able to watch it? Can you tell us anything in advance about it?

Manda Rin: It was shot 10 days ago at a Rollerdisco in London. It will be available very shortly. I can't wait to see how it turned out!

Muuma: In the tracklist of MY DNA there is “Do the Static. We were able to listen to this song in your previous band, “Data Panik”. Have you all recorded it again together?

Manda Rin: Data Panik never got to release anything expect a 7" which was such a waste of some great songs. I was largely involved in the writing of that song, so I just pinched it back and re-recorded it.

Muuma: Are there any guest musicians in your record?

Manda Rin: Just some excellent guitar playing by Sci Fi Steven as it's something that i'm not as great as. He is a great guitarist, and my live band have been struggling to learn the parts.

Muuma: Do you intend to tour to present your new work?

Manda Rin: I think it'll just be selective gigs. I currently have 4 booked for London and Glasgow. I'm nervous, but I'm hoping we'll get there!

Muuma: Will you come to Spain?

Manda Rin: I'd love to. If someone gives me enough money to make that possible, I'm sure i'll do it.

Muuma: Does it bother you when people ask you about BIS or your past, instead of asking about the present or the future?

Manda Rin: I don't mind, as long as people also mention the present and future. I'm not ashamed of my past, but I'd like to show that I have other stuff to offer now.

Muuma: If the answer is not: in the Data Panik Myspace you have added a RIP. However, that doesn’t happen at the BIS site. Does this mean that there is a chance of ever being together again?

Manda Rin: We played on 31st Dec just there in Glasgow, so the odd one-off gig will happen. They are very close friends of mine.

Muuma: When you hear the word muuma (the name of our site), what comes to your mind?

Manda Rin: Indian food
